Jonathan Saunders Spring'09 Collection at New York Fashion Week

My favorites from Charles Nolan's Spring 09 RTW Collection at New York Fashion Week.

Escada Display Window

When passing by the Escada store on Fifth Avenue I was immediately drawn to the orange jacket in the window. I really liked how effective this window was in catching my eye, and felt it was necessary to take a photograph of the memorable jacket.

Jill Stuart's Spring 09 RTW Collection at New York Fashion Week

Jill Stuart's collection for Spring 2009, presented at New York's Fashion Week, was filled with fluterry chiffon dresses, boyfriend jackets, harem pants, and loose and long cardigans. The collection could be said to have been derived from the world of the ballerina, as her light weight chiffon fabrics, pastel colors, and her use of various pieces of fabrics knotted around the ankles and wrists, stylistically appear as if they were made for a dancer. Stuart's ballerina aesthetic remains to be one of my favorite RTW collections for Spring 2009. These are some of my favorites:

Display Window of the Week

Christian Lacroix's window on 57th street features this fall's hottest look, of which is Gothic Glamour. Reinventing the traditional gothic look, Lacroix mixed sheer fabrics, lace, metallics, and leather to recreate this historical style. The store window display on 57th is emblematic of Lacroix's aesthetic for this season.

Trend Union Presentation at Parsons

Trend Union's Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 Trend Report: How Wonderful!

The Trend Union report which was given this past week at Parsons, provided valuable insight into the future of fashion. The company, which has been in the business for twenty-five years, is a trend-forecasting agency that provides consulting for various companys within the design world.
I found this presentation very interesting, as it dealt with the idea that all aspects of society impact on the future of fashion, and trends at large. Recognizing the issues of our troublesome economy, the presentation focused on the notion of optimism.
Titled "How Wonderful" the presentation dealt with a need to escape reality. Turning towards our imagination and fantasy then, the report focused on eccentricity, androgynous architypes, the ballerina, the influence of art on fashion, an Indian and Spanish influence, and enchanted moments.
Altogether, the presentation provided an alternative to our current state of affairs, and instead focused on the many positive aspects of life.
